2. Compound sentence basics
A compound sentence is two simple sentences connected by a comma and a coordinating conjunction.
My sister is good at math, and she always gets good grades.
I’m also good at math, but my sister is better than I am.
I will ask my teacher for help, or I will talk to my advisor.
My sister is older than I am, so maybe she can help me.

4. Commas with FANBOYS
FANBOYS that are joining two sentences ALWAYS have their comma friend with them.

Connects two sentences with similar idea. The sentences can be positive or negative.
Ex: My roommate is an art student, and her brother plays guitar.

Ex: She likes classical music, but she doesn’t like rock.

8. Or
Connects two sentences that express alternatives or choices.

9. So Connects a reason and a result.
He works a lot, so they don’t go out much.
