2 Compound sentence basics
A compound sentence is two simple sentences connected by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. My sister is good at math, and she always gets good grades. I’m also good at math, but my sister is better than I am. I will ask my teacher for help, or I will talk to my advisor. My sister is older than I am, so maybe she can help me.

3 Coordinating Conjunctions
FANBOYS For And Nor But Or Yet So

4 Commas with FANBOYS FANBOYS that are joining two sentences ALWAYS have their comma friend with them. , and , for , but , yet , or , so , nor

5 Practice p 60 Let’s find the subject and verbs and add commas where needed.

6 And Connects two sentences with similar idea. The sentences can be positive or negative. Ex: My roommate is an art student, and her brother plays guitar.

7 But Connects two sentences with contrasting or opposite ideas.
Ex: She likes classical music, but she doesn’t like rock.

8 Or Connects two sentences that express alternatives or choices.

9 So Connects a reason and a result.
He works a lot, so they don’t go out much.
