IFMA INTERNATIONAL FACILITY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION
MEGA ISSUES
2
MEGA ISSUE NO. 1 The boundaries of the FM profession will become far less distinct and require the FM professional to become adept at a wider array of core competencies.
3
The scope of responsibility for facility management professionals will become much less clearly defined and/or specialized. FM practitioner competency and performance expectations will be higher and in a state of constant change. These changes will challenge our capabilities, obscure our identity, and generate radical new roles. Survival of the profession will require access to appropriate educational and professional development opportunities- provided through a variety of efficient delivery systems and an unparalleled commitment to growth and performance.
4
MEGA ISSUE NO. 2 The workplace of tomorrow will not be defined by either traditional “brick and mortar” work environments or conventional utilization of physical spaces; this will result in challenges which, for the most part, are unheard of today.
5
The evolution of “virtual” work environments, alternative and home officing, new work technologies and demands to find a use for existing built facilities will redefine the role of the FM practitioner. Social and technological changes will eliminate geographic borders, transform business structures, alter behaviors, and introduce dramatic complexities to the profession. In order to survive, facility management must be at the crossroads of these actions.
6
Will there be a technology infrastructure as we know it today?
MEGE ISSUE NO. 3 Will there be a technology infrastructure as we know it today?
7
Technology infrastructure refer to telecommunications, data, networking, computer hardware, cabling, and software. Will companies on an individual basis continue to invest millions in a technology infrastructure to support their business? Commonplace technologies, such as telephony via twisted pairs of wires and fiber optic trunk lines will be replaced with technologies that are useful but, as yet, the exceptional technologies. Exceptional technologies are, for example , direct broadcast satellite (like sat-phone) and cell phones that will take precedence over landlines in every environment.
8
How will real estate be transformed?
MEGA ISSUE NO.4 How will real estate be transformed?
9
Real estate is commercial, industrial, residential real property.
It includes a wide range of office buildings, shopping centers, manufacturing facilities, industrial parks, farms, and space stations. Technology is changing the way we work and managing real estate will also undergo change. Integration mangers will apply strategy and planning around the world, as well as, to space stations, sub-marine environments and beyond.
10
Changing FM Demographics
MEGA ISSUE NO.5 Changing FM Demographics
11
Necessary approaches and strategies to deal with emerging reality.
FM must also face the sifting interest and acceptance of FM in other global regions. The number one – Europe, followed closely by Asia. IFMA must face this reality and provide support visibly to these chapters.
12
MEGA ISSUE NO. 6 The Digital Economy
13
The impact of e-commerce on businesses and the provision of corporate services has time horizons that are much shorter than most everyone imagines. We must continually adapt and it is always in different ways. The rate of introduction of technology has dramatically increased. But the human physiology is higher expectations on the needs, wants , and desires. The e-FM business would be broadband based, geographically distributed, emphasize logistics and networks, and have web access to information and resources.
14
Environment, Sustainability and the Urban Infrastructure.
MEGA ISSUE NO.7 Environment, Sustainability and the Urban Infrastructure.
15
In our over-complex and polluted planet, disasters ( including shortage, excesses, out-of-reason weather, etc.) involving the environment will become more important as people strive for better health or to avoid risk of exposure. In Australia, school uniforms come with a hat and all clothing has a UV –screening rating as we have for sun-block lotions. We must be prepared in advance of the eventually calamity while dealing with sharp issues on a day-by-day basis. Dealing with shortage of water, energy, access to daylight, direct line of sight to satellite stations etc.
