Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 6 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 3 &4 PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 1 STANDARD 6AF1.1 Write and solve one-step linear equations in one variable. 1g. Students will know how to determine the epicenter of an earthquake and know that the effects of an earthquake on any region vary depending on the size of the earthquake, distance, geology, and construction. 1.0 I want you to be able to solve problems that involve fractions. LEARNING OBJECTIVE Calculate and solve problems involving one – linear equations in one variable. Students will explain how a seismograph records an earthquake and understand how to locate an earthquake’s epicenter. I want you to tell me what a fraction is and how it is used. Use your Cornell notes to show me what you have learned. AGENDA Introduce chapter 3-3 Solving Multiplication Equations Lecture using CD and DVD Brain Pop on Equations Small group activities on Internet over Chapter 3-3 material. Introduce chapter 6-3: Measuring Earthquakes. Check foldable, pg 243. (6-3) and vocabulary words must be on it. Show Brain Pop on Earthquakes. Look at Movie Earthquake 10.0 Chapter 1-3 Sign the Social Contract Show Brain Pop on Comparing Fractions. DO NOW ACTIVITY Do the warm up problems on the blackboard. Get your Cornell notes out or your foldable and take notes. Get out your Cornell notes and foldable and be prepared to take notes for the lecture. Put your seismograph models on the tables. Take out your work book and work with your study buddy to ensure you have lesson 1-3 completed. Circle all the problems you wish the teacher to explain in detail. HOMEWORK Start Reading Chapter 3-3, Solving Multiplication Equations. Do problems 1-18, page 144 to 145. Start reading Lesson 6-3: Measuring Earthquakes from page 260 to 267. Answer questions 1 to 8, Lesson 3 Review on page 267. Complete Lesson 1-3, Representing Fractions. Do pages 19 to 25. TEST Test will be the Mid-Chapter Quiz on page 147. You can write or print out this test or copy it and circle the correct answers. Your test will be on lesson 6-3, Measuring Earthquakes which is found on the website. You may use your laptops to take this test. Test will be the Chapter 1 Test on page 28 and 29. EXTRA CREDIT Make the foldable on page Label on side with lesson 3-3 and use it to place your notes on it. Keep this foldable in your folder and add more lessons when get to them later on in the school year Make a model of a Seismograph found on page 261 in figure 12. Label the parts and tell the class how it works. Complete the Study Guide on pages 26 and 27.
