What is the purpose of an assembly?
To inform? To entertain? To introduce a new concept? To deepen learning?

No, you have less time than even that If you have more time - you can extend

Structural elements of an assembly
Introduction of the topic (let the kids know what you hope they will take away) A good story (with human interest) to set the scene Make the link between the story and the message Move the message from the personal to society, the school, or the local community End the assembly with a rhetorical question, or a quote from someone they will know, and must end with a thank you.

How to bring the elements to life
Let the kids know what you hope they will take away - it shouldn’t be a surprise Demonstrate the message with an item of media (Film clip, a song, a poem) Check in with pupils on what they would do/how they would feel (hands up, fingers up for a scale)
