OLYMPIC HISTORY 1.The 5 Olympic Rings represent 5 major continental regions of the world. - Africa , Americas , Asia , Australia , Europe 2.The Rings mean “ Linked Together in Friendship “. 3.The colors (Blue, Yellow, Black, Green, Red) symbolizes one of the colors in each country’s flag . 4.The Olympic Games started in B.C. 5.The Olympic Games originated from a festival honoring the god Zeus . 6.In the first 13 Olympiads, the only contested event was a foot race of yards.

Early Olympic Games Foot Race 200 yds the only contested event in the first 13 Olympiads Chariot Race held in the Hippodrome (an oval track with grandstands around it) The chariots had small wheels and were open in the back. Approx. 40 chariots started the race, but only a few could finish the 9 miles. Boxing Boxers would wrap their hands with strips of ox hide and slap one another with the flat of the hand. Pentathlon winner was considered best all-around athlete. The Pentathlon was made up of 5 events: Running, Jumping, Discus, Wrestling, & Javelin. Pancratium combination of boxing and wrestling in which no holds were barred between the 2 fighters, except no gouging out eyes and no biting.
