Research Interests: Processing-microstructure-mechanical property relationships in metals, (ferro)magnetic and conventional shape memory alloys, phase transformations, twinning and slip in single crystals, severe plastic deformation, energy harvesting, magnetocaloric and biomaterials. Shape Memory Alloys: Temperature and stress induced phase transformation; large actuation strain (~8%) and stress (>100MPa). Actuators, sensors, dampers, antennas, robotic hands, couplings, switches, plugs, eyeglass frames. Biomedical Shape Memory Alloys: NiTi and TiNb alloys, porous NiTi. Stents, braces, implants, guidewires, filters, staples. Magnetic Shape Memory Alloys: Truly multifunctional materials with high frequency response, magneto-caloric and resistive properties, energy conversions. High Temperature Shape Memory Alloys: High temperature and high work output actuators for aerospace, automotive and oil industry. CoNiAl, CoNiGa, NiFeGa, NiTiHf, NiAlPt, NiTiPt
