Remit of the Community Coordinator
The 2015 Counter Extremism Strategy clearly sets out Government’s commitment to challenge those – be they on the extreme right wing or Islamists – who draw upon and promote ideologies that seek to normalise behaviours that run contrary to the shared values which make our multicultural, multi-faith society amongst the most successful in the world.

Hate Crimes Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s protected characteristics. Hate Incidents can feel like crimes to those who suffer them and often escalate to crimes or tension in a community. When hate incidents become criminal offences they are known as hate crimes. A criminal offence is something which breaks the law of the land. Any criminal offence can be a hate crime if it was carried out because of hostility or prejudice based on our protected characteristics.
