Poverty today in Ireland – a case study
Over 1,000 homeless families, that’s over 2,500 children, live in hotels and bed and breakfasts! Karen’s story Karen lives in a hotel room with her two sons, aged six and 10. There are two beds (one single and one double). There is a small fridge in the corner and a kettle and a toaster on the floor beside it. There is nowhere to cook dinner and only a petrol station and a takeaway within walking distance. Breakfast in the hotel is too much hassle with too many questions from other guests, such as ‘Why do you live here?’ Living in a hotel is not all it is cracked up to be when you are not on holidays!
