Expectations High expectations of all – personal belief that by setting the bar high, students are more likely to achieve and meet those expectations. “If you don’t go out of your comfort zone – you don’t improve.” This relates to attendance, uniform, equipment, behaviour, effort, etc.. Home learning and parental support – can make up to a 30% difference in achievement.

Life at TPA The Academy is a rewarding environment to work in – all staff are united in the common goal: “Transform the life chances of our students.” Children attend the Academy from a variety of backgrounds to create a vibrant and culturally rich atmosphere. Our status as a Thinking School and the habits that underpin students’ development defines us.

Role of the Tutor Your child’s tutor will play an important role in their academic, spiritual and moral development. Registration and structured tutor time every morning and delivery of Personal Development (PD) lessons fortnightly. The tutor is the first point of contact for any correspondence.

Transition Week – Monday 2nd to Thursday 5th July
Objectives of the week: Ensure every child has a solid understanding of the Academy rules and routines. Introduce every child to the ethos of a Thinking School and the rationale behind it. Expose every child to the thinking tools and introduce their purpose.

Outline: Students will get to know their tutor through a variety of activities. Students will receive ‘taster’ lessons in a variety of subjects around the theme of ‘chocolate’. Students will complete a ‘POP’ project around the theme of ‘Proud to be Portsmouth’. Students will receive Assemblies in a range of topics including DEAR time. Students will experience a ‘typical’ day at the Academy including movement between lessons, break and lunch.

Practicalities: Please drop your child off at the school gates in the morning and meet them there in the afternoon. Monday 2nd July is a 9am start. Tuesday 3rd-Thursday 5th July are 8:40 as per normal. End of school is 3pm. Your child will need a reading book for the week – this will be used during DEAR time on either Wednesday or Thursday. Food and drink – all lunchtime food and drink will be available FREE of charge to students during the week. Break time snacks will be need to be brought in. Students are free to bring in packed lunches if preferred.

English Read with your child 20 minutes every day. Maths Go through unknown times tables by chanting them out loud – read them initially then gradually remove the visual prompt over time.
