What is VoiceThread ? It is a secure online software tool that students and teachers can use for collaboration. It is a way for students to comment on images, audio files, videos, and ideas in any subject area.

Why Use VoiceThread? It gives all students a voice in a non-threatening way. It extends the walls of the more traditional classroom. It makes a solid learning connection between home and school.

It will engage students. It will help integrate technology into the curriculum.

How Will Teachers and Students Use VoiceThread?
Students can use their knowledge of numbers to make comments about their qualities. Teachers can use the VoiceThread comments as an assessment tool.

How Will Teachers and Students Use VoiceThread?
Teachers can use it to assess prior knowledge. Students can make comments about images which will demonstrate their prior knowledge before a lesson is taught. Example: Constructive and Destructive Forces

Students can retell stories in their own words. Teachers can use it to document student progress. Example: Kindergarten students retell The Three Bears and teachers use it to meet a GKIDS standard.

Students can discuss what concepts they have learned during the week. Teachers can use this as an informal assessment tool. Example: Students tell what they learned during a week discussion on the Solar System.

Directions For Using VoiceThread

Directions Under solutions, click on K-12, and then click on learn more. (This ensures that you sign up for the free educator’s account)

Directions Then on the left side of the screen, click on register.

Directions 5. Register for your VoiceThread account. .
6. To begin your VoiceThread, select Create at the top of the page. 7. Click on Upload to load the picture, document or video that you wish to upload from your computer to begin your VoiceThread.

Directions Once your picture is loaded, there will be four options appear on the picture - 1) Top left and right arrows to rotate the picture 2) Replace button if you wish to select another picture to use instead. 3) Trash button if you wish to delete the picture 4) Add a title or link to add the title or link this VoiceThread to another webpage. Click Save when you are finished adding this information.

Directions Next click on Comment to add a comment to your picture, document, or video. If you wish to upload your picture to establish your identity, click on Upload and select it from the picture’s location.

Directions Once you click Comment, a bar will pop up in the middle of the page with arrows at each end.

Directions Use the arrows to select the picture you are commenting on and click the Comment button again. Choose the type of comment you wish to make (phone, camera, recording, type, or upload) and add your comment.

Directions If you are not happy with your comment, you can select “delete comment” instead of save, otherwise click Save. You have now set up your VoiceThread. All you need to do now is go to MyVoice tab, select Share and then invite your friends to comment
