Explain the difference between the terms continental drift and plate tectonics.
Continental drift refers to the fact that the lithospheric crustal plates are moving very slowly across the Earth’s surface.
Plate tectonics refers to the interaction between the plates and the asthenosphere below that provides the mechanism for continental drift.
