Figure 1 A defect in glomerular permselectivity enhances renal angiotensin II generation. Loss of glomerular filtration barrier integrity permits significant amounts of angiotensinogen and renin into the tubular fluid. With angiotensin-converting enzyme present on the proximal tubule brush border, all the components required for robust angiotensin II generation are present in the tubular lumen.
