Railroads Come to Georgia
More efficient way to travel. 1833, Georgia Railroad Company builds railroad westward from Augusta to Madison, Eatonton and Athens. Central railroad extended from Savannah to Macon. Towns grow around railways.

Government and Town Planning
After GA became a state, towns sprang up at crossroads, ferry landings, railroad stops, or other places people gathered to trade. Ceded Indian territory was reserved for towns with laid out streets, lots for pubic buildings and town lots sold to settlers. From , Creeks give up land and government plans three cities for development.

Milledgeville served as state capital, Macon and Columbus formed along the Fall Line.
All became major centers for trade. State government planning contributed to Georgia’s economic prosperity in the early 1800’s.
