Tragic hero Tragic Hero: A hero (usually the protagonist) who makes a decision that leads to his/her own downfall

Tragic Flaw Tragic flaw: The flaw in a hero that leads to his/her downfall; sometimes called hamartia

Proverbs Proverb: A short, often witty saying that typically offers wisdom

Epigraph Epigraph: A quote, poem, or phrase that is set at the beginning of a section or chapter

Round character Round character: A character so well-developed that he/she seems realistic; opposite of a flat character

Flat Character Flat character: A character that seems two-dimensional; uncomplicated; doesn’t change much over time; opposite of a round character

Dynamic Character Dynamic character: A character who undergoes an important change, often in personality or attitude
