Fig. 1 Atherosclerosis-related gene expression in PBMCs from hypercholesterolemic controls and high TG-low HDL-C hypercholesterolemic patients. PBMCs were isolated from control hypercholesterolemic and high TG-low HDL-C hypercholesterolemic patients. CD40LG (A), IL4 (B), IL6 (C), IL6ST (D), PALLD (E) and VAPB (F) mRNA expression levels were analyzed by real time PCR. Data were processed with a specially designed software program based on Ct values of each sample and normalized to 18 srRNA as endogenous control. Continuous variables were compared between groups with non-parametric Mann–Whitney U test for medians. Data are presented as medians and interquartile ranges. Differences were considered statistically significant when p<0.05. CD40LG (CD40 antigen ligand), IL4 (Interleukin 4), IL6 (Interleukin 6), IL6ST (Interleukin 6 signal transducer), PALLD (Palladin) and VAPB (vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated proteins B and C).
