1 We are ports

2 BENEFITS that ports provide to the community
Most of Australia’s towns and metropolises have been constructed in a good natural setting for a port. Ports helps and improves the economy in the most beneficial way possible. Wherever there is a port: BENEFITS that ports provide to the community

3 BENEFITS that ports provide to the community
-There are businesses that transport goods and have offices nearby. -Local governments are required to look after the town and the district around it. -Many people are needed to operate it and most these people might live in a town or rural close by. -Businesses that process goods require the factories that made the products close to the port. -Businesses that supply ships with stores and undertake maintenances on ships need to be found near the port. BENEFITS that ports provide to the community

4 BENEFITS that ports provide to the community
The offices set up by businesses that use ports benefit the city, town or region Other businesses establish the source of the goods they carry across near a port, for example an abattoir exporting frozen meat, factories exporting mass- produced goods, oil refineries importing and exporting fuel harvests etc. BENEFITS that ports provide to the community

5 How ports connect communities TO THE WORLD
Most coastal cities are built around ports, which provide a great economic benefit. Businesses are paid to deliver goods from the port, people living within the city probably work at the port and operate it while being payed, Ports usually have businesses/ factories near it because a provider of materials to factories, businesses are beneficially aided by the ports by being able to transport goods from the ports to other businesses that need them materials. Ports and employment People are paid to work at the port every day and some 24/7, majority of workers at the port are self-employed or works for the government (which usually requires not a high education but a lot of training. How ports connect communities TO THE WORLD

6 How ports connect communities to the world
Ports are located throughout Australia to provide local communities Ships all over the world supply ports Ports allow goods from Australian farmers to supply and economically grow in business How ports connect communities to the world

7 Awareness on what occurs within the port yards
Many vehicles are moving around and being dealt with, therefore there are a lot of safety hazards of being hit by a moving vehicle. In a port there are areas where certain materials or products must go through after being imported or waiting to be exported. For example, quarantine to make sure no disease carrying plants or bugs are getting into the country. Therefore, you must be cautious inside port yards so that you do not get injured or become an obstacle for any cranes or trucks etcetera moving around the port. 8 Awareness on what occurs within the port yards
There are many different terminals and facilities inside a port, for example, a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. Also, there are many different facilities, in the cargo terminal, different types of cargo for example, chemicals, or coal or perishables such as food are handled in different ways. Grain is unloaded off the boats and stored in big silos, food is taken and stored where it cannot perish, and chemicals, oils and coal are treated with extreme care so that nothing spills, and no fires are lit. 9 Awareness on what occurs within the port yards
When ships arrive at the port, the port sends out a person who knows the port well to dock the ship, this person is called the pilot and their role is crucial to the easy flow of cargo and passengers in the port. They are sent out on a boat, they board the ship, take control and then they are responsible for the safe docking of the ship. Awareness on what occurs within the port yards

10 Importance of ports to a primary industry
Ports play one of the most key roles in maintaining coastal cities populations by providing important supplies such as fuel and building materials these can only be provide through the ports shipping. Ports are vital when aiding industries such as the mining industries and agriculture. Ports are our livelihood, they help the economy grow by exporting and importing our meat and minerals. Importance of ports to a primary industry

11 Importance of ports to a primary industry
There are many diseases and pests that make their way here to Australia from different countries. Without quarantine these could get into Australia when the import of live animals and plants are coming to Australia. Most of these diseases and pests were never in Australia in the first place. A quarantine system gives us a better chance for safe importation of live animal and plant material. Importance of ports to a primary industry

12 Importance of ports to a primary industry
Even though ports are securely fenced off from the public there is still high security around the area. The security prevent: Cargo from being stolen or lost. Security prevent terrorist attacks from the port, ships and the area around. Makes sure cargo has gone through customs before entering. Importance of ports to a primary industry

13 How ports connect goods and people
Throughout Australia there are 72 ports which imports and exports valuables that connect local communities as well as are much needed. Australia in total, imports around 135,395,356tons across the world, and exports around 1,196,559,278tonnes of material and goods across the world. How ports connect goods and people

14 How ports connect goods and people
