Nightingale Little Girl: Nightingale, nightingale, high up in the tree. Nightingale, nightingale, sing your song for me. Late at night I hear your song, haunting melody. Nightingale, nightingale, sing your song for me. Sing your song for me. Nightingale: La la la, la la la, la la la de dah La, la la, la la la, la la la de dah Chief of Staff: Beautiful. Timekeeper: Magnificent. Physician: Exquisite. Music Master: It sounds like tiny glass bells! Little Girl: See how her little throat works?

Dialogue 4 Chief of Staff: It is surprising that we have never heard this before. She will be a great success at the palace. Narrator 3: Awed and satisfied by her performance, the group shared the Emperor’s wishes with the nightingale. Physician: Little nightingale, the Emperor has heard of your beautiful voice and has sent us into the woods to find you. Music Master: We have the great pleasure of inviting you to a court festival this evening, where you will delight the Emperor with your charming song. Timekeeper: How important you will be when the Emperor looks upon you with favorable eyes. Chief of Staff: Soon all of China will know of the revered nightingale with a voice as lovely and delicate as a butterfly’s wings. Narrator 4: The nightingale had always believed that her music sounded best in the green wood, but she still agreed to go. Courtiers: Wonderful. Thank you. The emperor will be pleased! Chief of Staff: Now, back to the palace. Little Girl: Follow me.
