2011 Motion Offense Areas Rule Emphasis
X=behind, L=low post, H=high post, 1=high R, 2=high L, 3=low R, 4=low L, O=odd side elbow, E=even side elbow, and Y=top) Rule Do not finish where you start. Emphasis Symmetry/Balance/Grouping (3 mids/3 attack/1 I) Pre-dodge moves (do the work offball before the pass) Communication (call where you’re going)

2011 Team Emphasis + Offensive Application
In our offense, we’re working in 3’s; therefore, others are ALWAYS relying on you. You may only have a bad play; you may NOT have a bad day. You don’t end practice saying, “I had a bad day today” or “It just wasn’t my day today.” NO! If it’s a bad play, then be done with it and move on. Remember, this offense does NOT work if there are 1 or 2 parts. It NEEDS all 7 players!

Key: get your hips open to where you want to go.
Maryland “Under” Key: get your hips open to where you want to go. “Under”=the inside move by the “prime” (player adjacent to the long dodge) “Trigger”=short dodge: sets up the long dodge, but is also a potential weapon “Long dodge”=the dodge that comes after the pass from the “trigger.” Long dodge elevates before the pass. Emphasis: pre-dodge moves

The Attack is responsible for 3, 4, L, and X
Ball at Y-A1 is prime (adjacent to the long dodge). As M1 prepares to trigger, A1 goes “under” to wide side of L—creates space for the dodge. A2 and A3 exchange. “Exchange”-outside to outside A3 stays on the weak side of the crease to allow the long dodger the entire side and no ball-side slide. Attack and I—cutting from H to L (or L to H) go through the “gate” (between the outside hash marks)-better for getting shoulders turned. Do not crowd the H.

Maryland “Under”-Midfielders
Midfielders are responsible for 1, 2, H, + Y Note: both the attack and midfield share O + E No one starts in O or E M2 triggers Uses an “inside pivot” (keeps eyes into 8m, feet moving away to gain space, and shoulders open Other possibility: Roll Away Then goes “in and out”—to area 2

Maryland “Under”-Midfielders (cont.)
M1 long dodges—has plenty of time and room. 1st dodge comes by 12m. If you don’t have anything on the 1st dodge, then re-square your hips and re-dodge. Possibility: use a step away on the 2nd dodge. This creates more width on your dodge. M3 “drifts”—she is an option—and then exchanges with M2 after she passes.

Adjustments and Details
“Drift” (as with most off-ball moves)—keep the hips open to the ball Be in the right position to catch the ball and attack Emphasize: “hips” not “shoulders” Attack and I—cutting from H to L (or L to H) go through the “gate” (between the outside hash marks) “Trigger Mid” or “Trigger A”—tells us to get the ball (skip pass) to that location and reset the O.

Maryland Under-continued
We trigger Mid to Mid or Attack to Attack Long dodges come from 1 and 4 Continuation: M2 is prime (adjacent to the long dodge) A3 triggers, then “drifts” to where the pass came from. A2 long dodges (see next slide) A1 is inside on trigger and pass to long dodge, then goes to X

Attack Long Dodge from 4 A2 long dodges. Pre-dodge: either elevates or closes in depending on the D. Either way she has plenty of space for her long dodge. If she passes, she has options: Midfielder coming to her (M1 at Y) Pass to M1 at Y is a tough for a righty. Inside presence (I at the opposite pipe) Midfielder at opposite wing (M3 at opposite elbow) A1 at X. This creates a # of different options for us.

Teaching Process (cont.)
Run the trigger, drift, and long dodge with cones and then rotate. [Possibility: Use the “corridor tag” connection with long dodge, so players can see the connection.] M M M M M M
