WEEK 7 ¤ WALK THE SECOND MILE!
MATT 5:38-42
2
Jesus wants us to lay down our rights
the world says we have a right to… retaliate and get revenge be offended look out for #1 to do only what we are being paid for to be compensated for everything we do to be treated fairly
3
Jesus wants us to lay down our rights
we don’t make the notion of ‘fairness’ a priority as His disciples reciprocation the Law’s intent was actually to bring justice instead of revenge Jesus presents a different kingdom culture doesn’t preclude defending family / country

Romans 12:17-21 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
5
Romans 12:17-21 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

more than what’s expected!
“the shirt off your back” Jesus has a habit of giving more than needed be a servant you may have to walk a mile when we go the second mile, we leave room for God to do something!
7
giving impractically Luke 6:30 (ESV) Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. Jesus made it clear that a loan should be looked upon as a potential gift

James 2:14-18 (MSG) Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you?
9
James 2:14-18 (MSG) Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? I can already hear one of you agreeing by saying, “Sounds good. You take care of the faith department, I’ll handle the works department.” Not so fast. You can no more show me your works apart from your faith than I can show you my faith apart from my works. Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.
