3 The Qinling Mountains (107°17′~ 108°01′E, 33°19′~ 33°46′N) is in northwest China. The elevation of the area ranges from 800–3071 m above sea level. This region belongs to a temperate humid region and the average annual temperature is 11.5℃, with lowest temperature reaching −14.3℃ in January and highest temperature reaching 36.4℃ in July. The average annual rainfall is mm. There are three major forest types: conifer forest, mixed conifer-broadleaf forest and deciduous broadleaf forest (Liu et al. 2013; Zhang et al. 2013) . 4 Qinling subspecies of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis): The Qinling Mountains is the highest latitude distribution area of giant pandas in China, with the highest population density among the whole country. The Qinling Mountains giant panda is an important group of giant panda, which has unique distribution patterns and population evolution history. In terms of morphology and molecular biology, there are obvious differences between the giant pandas in Qinling Mountains and those in Sichuan and Gansu. It is an independent subspecies of the giant panda, named as the Qinling subspecies of the giant panda. -- From Baidupedia. (

This is a story about the panda’s adaptation from Xuehua’s course. First, the panda felt lost because the way to meet his friends or mate was blocked by the highway. Then he learn to climb the rock beside the highway to find his friends or mate (usually pandas are in forests and they would not climb the rock).
