Comparison of capsular polysaccharide production by AB (wt) and AB (ΔbfmR). Capsule production was assessed by Western blotting. The monoclonal antibody 13D6, which has been shown to recognize the K1 capsule produced by AB , was used to detect capsule. (A) Cell-associated capsule (cell pellet) and capsule in culture supernatant (sup) was assessed after AB and AB were grown in rich Luria-Bertani laboratory medium at 37°C and 21°C. (B) Cell-associated capsule was assessed after AB and AB were grown in rich LB laboratory medium, minimal medium (MM), or human ascites fluid at 37°C.
