Pope Clement VII is under the control of Charles V’s (nephew of Catherine) army in Rome. Henry appeals to some of his advisers Thomas Cranmer, the new Archbishop of Canterbury, approves annulment (Cranmer is sympathetic to the Reform movement on the continent)
