Each half term, you are required to complete two pieces of homework. You will be given two deadlines; one for the first piece of homework, and one for the second. You may choose which of the three tasks you complete for each homework.

To write, explain and compare (in no more than 300 words) our different commitments that we have to a religious commitment
Write down the types of commitments you have at school, home and in your spare time
Explain what each of these commitments are and why they are important to you
Compare one of your commitments to a religious commitment (e.g. taking Amrit or being baptised). How are your commitments different or similar?
Create a poster on the first Pillar of the Five Pillars of Islam (Focus on the Shahadah)
Draw the First Pillar the Five pillars (the Shahadah) on an A4 piece of paper.
Describe what the Shahadah is.
Briefly explain how important the Shahadah is to Muslims and why they take it seriously
Briefly explain how this particular Pillar works
(To help: put BBC Shahadah into Google and follow the link)
Research how many places of worship there are in your community and interview 10 people
Find out how many places of worship there are in Letchworth and write them down in a bar graph (e.g. churches, Temples etc)
Then Interview 10 people and ask if they are actively involved in helping their community (e.g. charity or helping the local football team) to find the mode

#2 : Kirpan
Mini-Assessment
You are to write a letter to the head teacher of a school who have banned a Sikh student from wearing and displaying her Kirpan (ceremonial dagger worn by Khalsa Sikhs) to school.
You must provide two different points of view on why Gurjit Kaur should and shouldn’t wear her Kirpan to school.
Try to explain using different reasons based on the Sikh religion and what you have learnt in lesson. You must include relevant keywords and demonstrate overall which view you mainly agree with.
Don’t forget that you must write this in a letter format. Use your plan and exemplar to help you.
