2
Shot type: Establishing shot Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: This shot establishes the setting the scene will take place in.
3
Shot type: Medium shot Angle: Canted angle Explanation of choices: The medium shot allows the audience to see the actor’s expression without being uncomfortably close. The canted angle adds confusion and disorientation since the actor has just realized a surprise party has been thrown for her.
4
Shot type: Aerial shot Angle: High angle Explanation of choices: The aerial shot and high angle further help to set up the scene. They help show the cake, as well as who is at the party.
5
Shot type: Master shot Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: This master shot introduces all the characters in the scene at once.
6
Shot type: Over-the-shoulder Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: This shot helps to show the main character’s expression after receiving a present from someone at the party.
7
Shot type: Close-up Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: The actor’s happy expression is emphasized by this close up shot.
8
Shot type: Point of View Angle: High angle Explanation of choices: The audience can experience this moment through the eyes of the main character due to the point of view shot. The high angle helps emphasize how small the present is.
9
Shot type: Extreme Close-up Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: An extreme close up is used to stress the importance of the bracelet.
10
Shot type: Extreme Close-up Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: Another extreme close up is used to show that the main character has lost her bracelet, and someone else has found it.
11
Shot type: Medium shot Angle: High angle Explanation of choices: The high angle here, shows how weak the character feels after having lost her bracelet.
12
Shot type: Long shot Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: The long shot shows how vulnerable and sad the actor feels, while trying to look for her bracelet.
13
Shot type: Two shot Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: The two shot helps link the two characters together. The new actor has found the main actor’s bracelet, and has brought it back to her.
14
Shot type: Medium Close-up Angle: Eye level Explanation of choices: The medium close up helps show just how happy the main actor is, after having retrieved her bracelet.

Reflection a. In this project, my partner and I used and challenged many conventions that we found while researching different shot types and angles in T.V. shows and movies. While researching a Gilmore Girls episode we learned just how often over the shoulder shots are used. This helped us realize just how important it was for us to include an over the shoulder shot in our own scene. In the short film Fractured we realized just how interesting aerial shots can be when added to a scene, so we decided to include it in our project as well.
16
Reflection Close ups and extreme close ups were also heavily used in both Gilmore Girls and Fractured. This gave us ideas on what objects we wanted to have close ups and extreme close ups on in our project. We also decided to include a two shot because it was used in both media types that we researched. However, we also challenged some of these conventions.
17
Reflection For example, we decided to do an extreme close up on the bracelet in our project instead of the birthday cake. We also decided to have our actor sit in both the high angle and long shot to make her look more isolated and vulnerable.

Reflection b. My production skills developed a lot due to this project. I was able to work with a camera and understand lighting a little bit better. I also learned how much of an affect different shot types and angles can have on a scene. Shots and angles can completely change the meaning of a scene depending on how you manipulate them. I never realized that they were such an important detail in film making.

Reflection c. We were able to integrate two different technologies in this project. We used an iPhone 6s camera to take the pictures. To set up the information for this project, we relied on PowerPoint.
