To what does poetic meter refer? What is a foot in poetry? What is a dactyl? What kinds of lines do a dactyl create? What is a trochee? What is the most commonly used foot in Shakespeare? What is iambic pentameter? When do Shakespeare’s characters tend to use iambic pentameter? Why did Shakespeare use iambic pentameter?

6 End of Act II – 2 responses
On an index card: Choose and state the most important moment in Act II. Identify the line or lines that accompany that moment. Why is it the most important? What does it reveal about a character/the emerging themes in the play? On the other sticky note: (new charts for Act II) Choose either Othello, Iago, or Desdemona. On a sticky note, write a comment, question, or line that expresses your thoughts on the character you chose. Place the sticky note on the appropriate chart.

Group 1 – Review ALL the post it notes on the Othello charts. Synthesize and write 2-3 statements summarizing what is represented on the chart. Also, identify 1-2 questions to share with the class. Group 2 – Review ALL the post it notes on the Desdemona (and other characters) charts. Synthesize and write 2-3 statements summarizing what is represented on the chart. Also, identify 1-2 questions to share with the class. Group 3 – Review ALL the post it notes on the Iago charts. Synthesize and write 2-3 statements summarizing what is represented on the chart. Also, identify 1-2 questions to share with the class. Group 4 – Review Iago’s speeches in Act I. What seems to be his attitude to human relationships? How would you sum up his philosophy on life? Group 5 – Review Iago’s speeches in Act II. What seems to be his attitude to human relationships? How would you sum up his philosophy on life? Group 6 Sort index cards from Most Meaningful Moment in Act II. Present what similarities/differences are in the responses; then present what your group believes is the most important moment and why. Group 7 – Using symbols and pictures, create a visual representation of what has happened thus far in the play. Leave room for additions. Group 8 – Identify key phrases/words that each of the following characters use and explain why these phrases and words are important.
