Sunday, October 14, 1962 An American U-2 spy plane flew over Cuba and took detailed photographs of several missile sites. U.S. Military experts identified Soviet involvement. Additional photos indicated that some sites were nearly finished and were already supplied with missiles. American spy planes also reported 20 soviet ships carrying missiles en route to Cuba. Experts warned the most developed site could be ready to launch missiles within seven days. 10
