8 Recap of Repurposing Local Underutilized Properties Workshop
Industrial Properties – Jeff Milanaik, Bridge Development Historic Properties – Richard Dunn, VP, Paramount Assets The Future of Retail – Matthew Harding, Levin Management Brownfield Properties – Colette Santasieri, NJIT Takeaways Takeaways: transportation assets and cooperation with municipal officials and stakeholders are key to success (Jeff M’s presentation about Perth Amboy); historic properties downtown – often don’t activate above the first floor retail. Existing downtown properties are the heart and character of a community. Retail – brick and mortar isn’t dead, but it is changing (experiences, “showrooms”); and brownfields can be an asset. Key to a successful project is to engage the community and town early. This was the second in a series of repurposing workshops. The first was on January 17 and it focused on large properties such as corporate office parks and large industrial sites.
