The 4 Approved Meal Service Styles
Oregon Department of Education June 2009 ODE has approved 3 different meal service styles for CACFP, plus an additional “4th” meal style which is a combination of two of the styles. This section will discuss each of the styles, the requirements around each of them and when point of service meal count should be recorded with each.

CACFP Meal Service Styles
All Styles must: Serve all required food components Have adequate portion sizes Food components must be served together For all meal service styles, food components must be served in sufficient amounts to meet minimum portion requirements for the age group or groups served. All components must be served together either on the table or given to each participant at the beginning of the meal. For example, milk or fruit cannot be served later in the meal than the other components.

CACFP Meal Service Styles
All food served to the children must be consumed on site and under adult supervision. Food prepared, but not served and not claimed for reimbursement is the property of the facility and may be used accordingly. A reminder: All CACFP meals and snacks served to children and claimed for reimbursement must be consumed on site and under adult supervision. The 4 Meal Service Styles
Restaurant Style Family Style Cafeteria Style Combination Restaurant Style / Family Style Sponsors may choose one of the following methods of serving CACFP meals: Restaurant Style Family Style Cafeteria Style Combination Restaurant Style / Family Style Some sponsors utilize more than one meal service style, depending on the site, program or daily circumstances. It is important to remember, when meals are served which will be claimed for reimbursement they must be served using one of the approved meal styles.
