2. 922A / 922E Exceptions Difficulty of Cell Conversion
Infrequently used and small volume parts do not always follow overstock rules.
922E
Overstock is kept under POU because of the unexpected amount of empty space available.
Tools assigned tabletop locations instead of bins.
Some bins are neither yellow nor standard sized.

Using the 3 cells we have worked on as examples of execution, the length and difficulty of a cell conversion is a function of the following characteristics.
This information is known before a kaizen event and can be used to estimate the amount that can be accomplished during a set 3 day event. A hard cell will take the full 3 days or more while multiple easy cells should be able to be completed in one event.

4. 925B 40 obsolete part numbers were removed from the cell.
More POU storage was created by moving excess into overstock.
Extended part storage on the outside wall of the cell.
We found items that had zero inventory and zero value.
Not following “break a bin, turn it in”.

5. 925B: Spool & Overstock Storage Area
Spools take up ~50 cubic feet of space. Parts take up ~20 cubic feet in overstock area.
The current overstock area is ~170 cubic feet of space.
What can we do to improve the space utilization?
Spacing and shelving are imperfect for storing spools.
Fluctuating QOH by material.
New materials presentation solutions.

Visual Management for Estimating Remaining Quantity of Spools is Difficult
-Use poles where only a certain quantity can fit
-Utilize gravity racks where “red” shows once quantity too low
How to Display Part Information (Kanban Card, Part Number, etc.)
Display information on front of gravity rack or on bottom of “pole” incline
