Earth’s Crust The crust is brittle, hard and rigid.
It is the outermost and thinnest layer. It is less than 1% of the Earth’s total mass.
3
Earth’s Mantle Made of hot, solid rock
Starts out rigid and becomes more bendable as depth increases. Temperature and pressure increase as you go deeper into the mantle.
4
Earth’s Outer Core Molten, liquid metal Mostly iron and nickel.
5
Earth’s Inner Core Extremely hot, solid metal Very dense ball
Mostly iron and nickel

How does heat affect the motion in a liquid?
Question How does heat affect the motion in a liquid?

Pre-Lab What do you already know how heat affects atoms (particles)?
What do you know about the effect of heat on a liquid like water? Think about things you have seen or experienced in your life. Use your answers to #1 and #2 to help you complete the hypothesis statement below. A hypothesis is a possible answer to the testable question written at the top of the page.
