5. Saya sakit (I am sick)
If u have learnt the names of the various parts of the body in Malay from the pervious lesson you will be able to say what exactly
you are suffering from. Unlike English where the name of the sick body member is followed by the word ‘ache’, in Malay it is in the other
way round i.e. the word sakit comes before the name of the body member that is sick.
Saya hendak jumpa doktor.
Mengapa?
Kerana saya sakit kepala.
Anda tidak datang bekerja semalam, mengapa?
Kerana saya sakit.
Sakit apa?
Sakit perut.
I wish to see a doctor.
Why?
Because I have a headache
You didn’t come to work yesterday, why?
Because I was sick
What were you suffering from?
A stomach-ache.
