EPAMINONDAS OF THEBES Lived 418-362
Liberated Thebes from Spartan rule. Destroyed Spartan forces at Leuctra and the 2nd battle of Mantinea. Made Thebes a major player throughout the 360’s.

PHILIP II OF MACEDON A Macedonian in Thebes during Theban hegemony and educated by Epaminondas. After being chosen to rule for a relative boy king in Macedon, he took power. He spent the 25 years after Epaminondas’ death conquering Greece with plans to take Persia. His assassination gave Alexander the Macedonian throne (which already included all of Greece and Thrace).

Died immediately after leaving no heir. Established Greek customs where he went.

The Romans defeated the Antigonids in 168 BCE.
Greece fell to Roman power in 146 BCE. Attalus III willed his country to Rome in 133 BCE. The Seleucid Empire became Roman when Pompey conquered the area in 63 BCE. Cleopatra, the last Ptolemy in Egypt, died in 30 BCE.
