What are the basics of the Global Tech Mechanism
What are the basics of the Global Tech Mechanism? A quick reminder on what we agreed on together..…..…. SSSSSS
5
Areas for the Global Technical Mechanism to address
1 2 Technical advice This refers to the process of providing feedback to questions from individuals working in countries in emergencies within a relatively short timeframe primarily when normative guidance exists/are available. Consensus driven guidance This refers to the process of identifying and addressing the need for additional technical operational guidance for an emerging issue that must be addressed in order to enable a specific emergency response Specialized technical expertise This refers to securing specific technical expertise that the cluster needs in order to deliver on cluster activities, which is beyond the capacity of country level resources due to either the complexity/newness of the issue or guidance or relative scarcity of the expertise. 3

Components of Global Technical Mechanism

7
What is the objective and what are principles guiding the Global Tech Mechanism? ..….

8
Global Tech Mechanism Objective and Guiding principles
To provide predictable, flexible, systematic and effective approach to respond to nutrition technical gaps and meet the nutrition needs and rights of children, adolescents and women in humanitarian crisis. Seeks to maximize existing technical resources at country, regional and global level and to avoid duplication of efforts Seeks to meet the needs of the Nutrition sector, not to serve the interests of specific agencies Tackles technical issues in a predictable, systematic and timely way to enable quality and effective nutrition response in humanitarian crisis Facilitates consensus on NiE related guidance / best practices and for the global NiE resources , TWGs, networks supporting countries to speak with ‘one voice’ Addresses nutrition technical gaps that are most important and most feasible for the Global Technical Mechanism to impact Acts to facilitate, coordinate and catalyse filling of technical guidance gaps, but does not execute the development of guidance itself Objective Guiding Principles

How do you access the Global Tech Mechanism and what support do you get?

Issue raised at county level
Issues can include Technical advice Consensus driven guidance Specialized technical expertise Capacity and resources at country/ regional level maximized but issue remains unresolved? How to access support? Calls, , Portal, Skype, Social media GNC – Helpdesk UNICEF HQ En-net Tech- RRT Who to access for support? Entities serving the collective Options to reach for support What Actions will the entities serving the collective undertake? Triage the technical issue and undertake required actions Escalate unresolved issues (tech advice, specialized tech expertise and consensus- driven guidance) to the Global Thematic Working Groups (existing and non- existing) & WHO as required Consolidate learnings and priority areas for support and research ‘triage’ in terms of what requires – 1. consolidation/translation to digestible format of what is already know, or country sharing of experiences (ENN), 2. Interim guidance (WV/UNICEF through to TWGs or WHO), 3. Deployment (focal point for pillar 3) – will be done by the team on an ongoing basis Knowledge Management Expertise/ capacity Tech advice and guidance What support and products you should expect? Consolidated learning and priority gaps & areas for research Summary sheets of existing guidance Country case studies Webinars for inter-country learning Thought pieces and periodic updates/news Link/ database with existing resources/ mechanisms and how to access them Database with rosters of consultants Training packages on NiE Link/ database with existing guidance & guidelines Summary sheets of existing guidance Process for interim guidance development facilitated Support to HNO –HRP processes

What have we done/ are doing to meet what we are promising?
