2 DO NOW Take out your packet. Answer in your notebook. What are some things that you wonder and what are some things that you notice? Marissa has twice as much money as Frank. Christina has more money than Marissa.

3 OBJECTIVE(S): I will be able to use order of operations, properties of equality and tape diagrams So that I can calculate the solutions of two-step equations. I will know I got it when I can successfully complete the 4 stations independently or with my partner with at least 80% accuracy. 6.EE.B.7

4 Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing to communicate the academic math language of order of operations, properties of equality and tape diagrams. They will verbally communicate and write the solutions of two-step equations. They will show they understand two-step equations by successfully completing the 4 stations independently or with their partners with at least 80% accuracy. Academic Math Language Vocabulary: order of operation, properties of equality, tape diagram, two-step equation.

5 Pg #1 I DO…. Dwayne scored 55 points in the last basketball game, which is 10 points more than his previous personal best. Lebron scored 15 points more than Chris in the same game. Lebron scored the same number of points as Dwayne’s previous personal best. Let d represent the number of points Dwayne scored during his previous personal best and c represent the number of Chris’s points.

6 Dwayne scored 55 points in the last basketball game, which is 10 points more than his previous personal best. Let d represent the number of points Dwayne scored during his previous personal best d 10 55 d + 10 = 55

7 Lebron scored 15 points more than Chris in the same game
Lebron scored 15 points more than Chris in the same game. Lebron scored the same number of points as Dwayne’s previous personal best. Let c represent the number of Chris’s points. d 10 c 10 15 c 25 c + 25 = 55

8 a. How many points did Chris score during the game?
Chris scored 30 points. -25 -25

9 b. If these are the only three players who scored, what was the team’s total number of points at the end of the game? Dwayne scored 55 points Chris scored 30 points d = 45, Lebron scored 45 points Altogether = 130 points d + 10 = 55

11 We do… The number of customers at Yummy Smoothies varies throughout the day. During the lunch rush on Saturday, there were 120 customers at Yummy Smoothies. The number of customers at Yummy Smoothies during dinner time was 10 customers fewer than the number during breakfast. The number of customers at Yummy Smoothies during lunch was 3 times more than during breakfast. How many people were at Yummy Smoothies during breakfast? How many people were at Yummy Smoothies during dinner? Let d represent the number of customers at Yummy Smoothies during dinner and b represent the number of customers at Yummy Smoothies during breakfast.

12 Lunch is 3 more times than breakfast
120 Lunch is 3 more times than breakfast b b b 120 3 b = 120 There were 40 customers at breakfast. 3 3 b = 40

13 dinner dinner time was 10 customers fewer than the number during breakfast d 10 There were 40 customers at breakfast. b d + 10 = b d + 10 = 40 There were 30 customers at dinner. d + 10 = 40 d = 30

14 Center Work: Students are to:
Read over the directions and problem(s) at each station. With your group, you will answer the problem(s) When the teacher tells you to, you will move to the next station and follow the directions. You will only have 6 minutes at each station. If you finish a station early, go to page 140 and complete #3, 4 and 5. Center 4 Center 4 Center 3 Center 3 Center 2 Center 2 Center 1 Center 1

15 Go page 140. You do #3, #4, #5, independently or with your partner.

21 Ticket to Go Use tape diagrams and equations to solve the problem with visual models and algebraic methods. Alyssa is twice as old as Brittany, and Jazmyn is 15 years older than Alyssa. If Jazmyn is 35 years old, how old is Brittany? Let a represent Alyssa’s age in years and b represent Brittany’s age in years.

22 Accommodations Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners
