8 Retain Give out cards and any other promised incentives in a timely matter Thank your members for joining! Continue to thank members by communicating throughout the year and make them feel needed Ask their opinion about what they would like to see PTA doing for children/families Personally invite them to events

9 Most Important is TEAMWORK
Whole Board of Directors must promote PTA This cannot be done by the Membership chair alone! Get your whole PTA board thinking differently – communicate more, be transparent, reach out Talk about what being a PTA means. What does being a PTA member mean? Personally ask people – don’t be afraid, think about how you would feel if someone asked you Create a value proposition – what’s in it for them Develop a one minute “elevator” speech (3 great things about your PTA and 1 thing that makes your PTA unique) Remember the “T” in PTA Teachers are a great resource and want to feel part of the plan

10 Why do people join PTA?? They like the programs offered to children/families They want to help provide resources for classroom use They believe in the mission of advocating for every child They like to volunteer They want to make friends They want to know more about the school

12 Celebrate Achievements Apply for membership awards!
Honor Roll ( Memberships ≥ last year and paid by November 15th) Bronze Acorn (10% increase in Membership sold over last year, paid by March 15th) Silver Acorn (memberships sold ≥ student enrollment by March 1) Ruby Acorn (100% full time teacher membership by March 1) Gold Acorn (memberships sold ≥ student enrollment + 100% Full time teachers by March 1) President’s Bowl (PTA unit with the highest percentage increase over the previous year) Does your local council have other awards? If so, APPLY!
