20 “Slaying the Dragon of Discouragement” Part 2: Chip Ingram
Teammates March 17, 2019 Lee Bennett-Facilitator

21 David struggles with discouragement
I Samuel 21:10, 13-15; “Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath…David greatly feared Achish the king of Gath. So he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.”

22 David’s double life I Samuel 27-”Then David said to himself, ‘Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape into the land of the Philistines. Saul then will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand’…So David lived there 16 months…”

23 Table Talk Chip Ingram spoke last week about the need to get God’s perspective in our circumstances. How do we do this? Have you been able to do this in your life? How does knowing the Word of God help?

24 Slaying the Dragon requires 3 things: PLAY part 2
1.-Getting God’s perspective in circumstances 2.-Getting God’s perspective in our future 3.-Getting God’s perspective in our motivation

25 Review/Summary Re-evaluate your circumstances: test to see if my faith is in perishable or eternal things? Re-evaluate your focus: test to see if hope is determined by the size of my problems or the certainly of God’s promises? Re-evaluate your motivation: test to see if primary motives are to love Christ or get relief?

26 Table talk Chip spoke of looking through the lens of eternity rather than through the lens of time. What steps could you take to do this more often? Our highest motivation for persevering is love, not duty. What might be some indications that a person’s relationship with Christ is more about duty than about love?

27 Summary: make this a week of eternal focus
“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as His adopted children, including the new bodies He has promised us.” Roman 8:23
