Reading: Genre focus: biography. We will be practicing summarizing. We will continue to work on synonyms. Exciting news: We are in “teams” for a March Madness reading competition. Be sure to ask your child about what team they are on and how they are doing.
Writing: We are continuing to work on adding descriptive details to our writing, and sentence fluency and variety.
Math: The metric system! We are measuring in centimeters now!
Spelling: words with oo, ue, u_e, ew, ue, ui and ou.
Social Studies: We began a new unit on using maps. Students will be learning how to use the cardinal directions, and map keys.

Calendar Updates
Field trip: March 16th to the high school. We are seeing a production of Lil’ Abner. Please send in your permission slip and $2 for this trip if you have not already done so.
Winterfest: Bourbon Central’s PTO will be holding our annual Winterfest School Carnival on Friday, March 11th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Bourbon County High School. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for an evening of family fun.
Calendar Updates: On March 18th school WILL be in session in Bourbon County. This day will be used as makeup snow day!

YMCA Swimming Lessons: Please return the permission slip for swimming if you have not already done so. I am in need of parent volunteers to help out with this. If this is something you could help with in the afternoons, please send me a note.
We are in need of tissues, pencils and treats for our treat box.
