2 When light is bounced off a surface
REFLECTION OF LIGHT When light is bounced off a surface Regular reflection (specular)- Rays are reflected parallel to each other. Irregular reflection (diffuse)- Rays are not reflected parallel.

3 LAW OF REFLECTION The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. θi = θr

4 Plane Mirrors (Flat) Image is same size as object.
Image and object are the same distance from the surface from the mirror Image is vertically erect (upright) Image is laterally inverted (reversed horizontally) Image is virtual- light rays don’t pass through the image. It can’t be projected onto a screen

5 PLANE MIRROR IMAGE OBJECT IMAGE Object distance = image distance
Object height = Image height

6 The word ‘AMBULANCE’ is written backwards on the vehicle
The word ‘AMBULANCE’ is written backwards on the vehicle. When you use your rearview mirror, it gets laterally inverted so you can read it properly.

7 PERISCOPE Periscopes use two mirrors. The second reflects the image formed by the first. The image is not laterally inverted because its been reflected twice.

8 CURVED MIRRORS Concave Mirror- light rays converge to one point called the focus. Can form a virtual or a real image. Light passes through the image, it can be projected on a screen and its inverted.

9 Convex Mirror- Light rays diverge outward. Only forms virtual images
Convex Mirror- Light rays diverge outward. Only forms virtual images. Image is smaller, behind mirror and vertically erect.

10 TWO WAY MIRRORS Uses lighting and a partially reflective mirror to allow people behind the mirror to observe what is going on in front of the mirror. In front it is well lit while behind the mirror its dark. You get the same effect in your living room at night.
