Kilkishen waste water treatment plant
2
The Kilkishen waste water treatment plant was constructed in 2000/2002 to serve a population equivalent of 440 with a design capacity of 750. Waste water is the water that is used in household toilets, washing machines, showers, baths, etc. The waste water is taken from Dun An Óir, Hillcrest Grove and Plunkett Drive pumping stations.

A waste water treatment plant is where water flows into a Clarifer, the sludge stays in the Clarifer while the clean water is pushed out of the Clarifer into the outlet weir where a brush cleans the water and takes any remaining sludge out of the water. The clean water is then taken underground in a pipe to Clonlea Lough.
6
Where does the sludge go?
When the water has been treated the sludge then travels underground and is pressed to get rid of excess water, the dewatered sludge is collected in an outside skip, which is removed off site to Limerick Main Drainage for Thermal drying to make things like soil and compost.
