To be considered a civilization a society needs/must have the following:

Societies have to have a surplus of food, this allows them to focus on other things to advance them.

Society needs levels of people who are responsible for certain jobs and duties.

5. 3.) Government:
Societies need someone to make and enforce laws/rules to keep order.

6. 4.) Religion:
Civilizations have a religion where people can share a belief system, traditions, and values.

7. 5.) The Arts:
Societies that are civilizations have time to enjoy the beauty of life. The arts include: architecture (buildings), paintings, sculptures, music, metal work, and literature.

8. 6.) Technology:
They have time to make advances to make life easier. They use their knowledge or science to create tools and inventions.

9. 7.) Writing:
Societies have to have the ability to communicate so they can organize ideas and share information.
