Photosynthesis in the Oceans
By: Danny, Shannon, and Mehdi
2
The Photic Zone The area in the ocean that is near the surface and has enough light to make photosynthesis. The photic zone is twenty meters in the ocean.
3
Dinoflagellate A large group of flagellate protist, they can be found in fresh water but are marine protists. Their population flourish based on the temperature.
4
Diatom They are an important group of eukaryotic algae, and are the common type of phytoplankton in the ocean. Diatoms are unicellular.
5
Phytoplankton Phytoplankton are an autotrophic component of plankton that obtain energy through photosynthesis, and live in a well lit surface area of a lake, ocean or sea.
6
Algae Certain microscopic forms of algae that live in suspended parts of the water column (we also call these Phytoplankton) provide the food for most of the marine food chains.
