2 Values and Morals What Are Values? What Are Morals?
A person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life. Principles, ethics, moral code, morals, standards, code of behavior. A person’s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

3 Types of Values MORAL VALUE: REFLECTS WHAT IS RIGHT, GOOD, OR JUST. MATERIAL VALUE: POSSESSIONS AND OBJECTS THAT WE VALUE. WHETHER OR NOT IT IS USEFUL. AESTHETIC VALUE: EXPERIENCE THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH YOUR SENSES. EVOKES EMOTIONAL RESPONSES. SIGHT (BEAUTY), SMELL (CAKE BAKING), HEARING (MUSIC), TOUCH (SILKY), TASTE (DELICIOUS).

4 Types of Goals LONG RANGE: YOU CHOOSE TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING; MAY TAKE WEEKS, MONTHS, OR YEARS. MEDIUM RANGE: “CHECKPOINTS” ALONG THE WAY TO MEETING LONG RANGE GOALS. SHORT RANGE: “STEPPING STONES” ON THE WAY TO REACHING MEDIUM RANGE AND LONG RANGE GOALS. *Situational Example

5 Resources To Help You Reach Your Goals
HUMAN: PEOPLE TO HELP YOU.  MENTAL: YOUR INTELLIGENCE AND COMMON SENSE.  PERSONAL: COURAGE, HAPPINESS, INNER STRENGTH, ETC.  SKILLS: WORD PROCESSING, COOKING, WELDING, ETC.  ENVIRONMENTAL: WEATHER, NATURE, ETC.  MATERIAL: MONEY, POSSESSIONS.   TECHNICAL: TOOLS, SEWING MACHINE, COMPUTER, ETC.  RELATIONSHIPS: HUMAN, FAMILY, ETC.

A STRONG GOAL IS: SPECIFIC- WHAT DO I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? MEASURABLE-HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN IT IS ACCOMPLISHED? ATTAINABLE- HOW CAN THE GOAL BE ACCOMPLISHED? RELEVANT- DOES THE GOAL SEEM WORTHWHILE? TIME BOUND- WHEN CAN I ACCOMPLISH THE GOAL?

7 GOAL SETTING CATEGORIES
OBJECTIVE: ROLL THE DICE THREE TIMES AND WRITE EACH NUMBER YOU GET ON YOUR HANDOUT. IF YOU REPEAT A NUMBER YOU NEED TO ROLL AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET A NUMBER YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY ROLLED. AFTER YOU HAVE RECORDED YOUR NUMBERS, WAIT FOR INSTRUCTION FROM THE TEACHER. LOOK AT YOUR HANDOUT. THE INSTRUCTOR IS GOING CALL OUT THE NUMBERS 1-6. WHEN YOU HEAR ANY ONE OF THE THREE NUMBERS YOU ROLLED, YOU WILL WRITE THE CATEGORY TOPIC THE INSTRUCTOR GIVES YOU ON YOUR HANDOUT. CAREER/EDUCATION  RELIGIOUS/SPIRITUAL ACHIEVEMENT/RECOGNITION  PHYSICAL/HEALTH MONEY/FINANCIAL  FAMILY/SOCIAL/RELATIONSHIPS
