E-cigarette Flavors Hawaiian Punch Gummy bears S’mores Skittles Cotton candy Sweet Tarts Fruit Loops Banana Split Cool Cucumber Introduction (5 min.) A. Ask students: Why do you think the E-cigarette and tobacco industry make E-cigarettes with candy flavors like gummy bears, cotton candy and s’mores? Who are they trying to appeal to? Who are advertisers trying to appeal to with these candy flavors?

3 E-cigarette Flavors Flavoring chemicals are listed as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) but ONLY for ingestion (eating) Your lungs do not have a detoxifying system. Your liver does this job for the digestive system. Introduction (5 min.) Review the safety concerns listed below for the 8,000+ flavor chemicals that can be added to E-cigarettes. The flavor chemicals are listed as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe), BUT this is only for ingestion (eating). FEMA (Flavor Extract Manufacturers Association), the organization in charge of the GRAS list, specifically say these flavors should not be inhaled Why? While the digestive system has the liver to detoxify the chemicals you eat and drink, there is no such system in your lungs.
