Character Character: a representation of a person in a narrative text

Characterization Characterization: How the author creates memorable characters that will interest the reader.

Character development: The changes that characters go through over the course of a story, book, or series.

Character Motivation Character motivation: The reason a character takes a particular action, or what drives them to think, behave, and interact with others.

One-Dimensional/Static Characters
One-dimensional characters are usually static, which means they don’t change over time. Usually have one or two personality traits. They don’t learn or grow over the course of the book.

Three-Dimensional/Dynamic Characters
Three-dimensional characters have a complex personality, and change over the course of the book. Usually heroes, but not always. They are dynamic, meaning they change inside.
