Materials Needed: Pen/Pencil Composition notebook HOMEWORK STRIKE SYSTEM IN EFFECT: COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK AND PEN/PENCIL (2, 4,6 periods) Agenda PASS BACK COMPOSITION NOTEBOOKS (1, 3) Warm up: Introduction paragraph (7 min.) Warm up discussion (2 Volunteers to READ) Review: Introduction paragraphs PP Notes: Body Paragraphs Body Paragraph practice Last 2 minutes: Pass out GOLDEN TICKET winners. Tomorrow: One day journal into persuasive brochures (w/ Scaggs) Objective(s): Practice the traits of a good introduction paragraph by writing during the warm up. Identify the traits of a good body paragraph by taking notes. Practice those traits by writing a body paragraph within 7 minutes for each.

WARM UP Warm Up, 1/12/09 [7 min] Write an introduction paragraph to the following prompt--don’t forget to use a WORD PICTURE (the senses!) Many people in their life look for a significant other that they can love (and, who loves them in return). Describe your perfect significant other. What makes them the perfect companion?

Introduction Paragraph Review
TAKE NOTES Introduction Paragraph Review The introduction is the MOST IMPORTANT part. Start with a WORD PICTURE An explanation of a scene/situation that uses sensory details. Smell, touch, taste, hearing, sight. End with a TRANSITION (thesis statement) Quick summary of the points you’ll discuss in your body paragraphs.

NO NOTES Example It was a very hot day. Sweat was dripping down my face as a passed by the BBQ grill. I could smell the chicken and baked beans roasting over the open fire. I opened a bottle of my favorite soda. Gulp. Ice cold, just how I like it. With good food, drink, and friends, who wouldn’t think this was the best day ever?

NO NOTES How long should my explanation be? Look down at your hand…. Is it bleeding? YES = Length is good. NO = Keep writing. What do I mean? The more you put, the higher your grade.

NO NOTES Body Paragraph Example (I chose to develop my GOOD FRIENDS example from my introduction paragraph) First, let me tell you about the good friends I had at the BBQ. For example, there was my friend Billy Bob. Billy Bob has been a friend of mine since the 3rd grade. When I saw his bright red truck show up at the BBQ I knew this would be a day to remember…(insert ridiculous example here until hand hurts).
