4 Warm Up – Translate the following lines from R&J
“Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear. So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.” Which sense is used in the quote?

5 Poetry -> Sound Activity Instructions: Part One
Copy the definitions of the literary terms. Read the poem silently. Look for examples of the sound devices. Once you have finished reading, check for understanding by discussing the poem with your partner. Do you understand it? Find examples of alliteration, assonance, consonance, and onomatopoeia.

Listen to and read the poem “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas. Fill out a SOAPSTone analysis of the poem. Answer the following questions: How does sound play a role in the understanding of this poem? Which sense is being evoked in the play and how would a different sense change the meaning of the poem? Identify three examples of figurative language and explain their effect on the poem.
