Ancient Rome surrounded the Mediterranean Sea. Ancient Rome and Mesopotamia both began on rivers. Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece have the same gods but Ancient Rome changed the names. The Alps and Apennines mountains covered part of Ancient Rome. This is good for protection. Ancient Rome borrowed polytheism from Ancient Greece. Mount Vesuvius destroyed the city of Pompeii. Ancient Rome began as a monarchy and ended as an empire. The leader of the Roman Republic was the consul. There were two consuls so one would not be too powerful. The two main classes of Ancient Rome are: plebeian and patrician. The senate represented the wealthy people of Rome. The wealthiest people were the patricians. The second part of the Republic was the assembly. The assembly represented the plebeians. Ancient Rome, Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt all had slaves. Both the Ancient Roman republic and the United States government have trial by jury. The responsibilities of the Roman Republic were: military, taxes, and voting. The 12 tables and Hammurabi’s code were both sets of laws that were written down.
