Quickly Determine Wind Loading for Stadium Safety
ANSYS in Action Use ANSYS CFD to determine pressures exerted by the wind on the structure’s various elements. Use ANSYS Workbench to easily transfer pressure values to ANSYS Mechanical for modal analysis. Maximizing Passive Safety Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha required massive renovations to ensure it was ready for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Engineers needed to validate the safety of the stadium design from a wind-loading perspective in much less time (15 days) than would be required for wind-tunnel testing. Key Results Multiphysics allowed engineers to recommend changes to improve safety which were adopted by the designers. The stadium hosted 7 matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and it will host football games for the 2016 Summer Games to be held in Brazil.
