1 Example of Information Extracted from an Article
The Impact of Pharmacist Delivered Care in the Community Pharmacy Setting  Nichole Nunemaker, Paul Scholbrock, Lexi Thumann, Kirsten Wells Project Preceptor: Jay Currie Pharmacist delivered care in a community pharmacy has a positive impact Collation of results would assist in evaluation of effect and identify areas of needed research An objective process is needed to identify quality literature and summarize for evaluation Results, if positive would assist in advancing practice and efforts to achieve provider status Background Methods PubMed search: "community pharmacy services AND (economics OR clinical outcomes OR patient satisfaction) Generated inclusion and exclusion criteria Abstracted data from each article Analyzed outcomes from included articles Example of Information Extracted from an Article Results F Clinical Outcomes Improvement in medication adherence Improvement in disease state management Identification and resolution of drug therapy problems Economic Outcomes Reduction in physician visits, hospitalizations, ER visits Patient Satisfaction Outcomes More time spent with pharmacist Feeling as though they were being listened to  Pharmacist discussed overall health rather than medications only Positive results not found in 45.6% of trials Systematically analyze primary literature Determine the impact of pharmacist delivered services in the community pharmacy setting  Analyze 3 specific outcomes Clinical Economic Patient satisfaction Identify areas for further research Objectives Results Only looked at results from a single database Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria Limitations Methods Inclusion Criteria Community Pharmacy Control Groups (Historical or Parallel) Peer reviewed, primary research Clinical, economic or patient satisfaction outcomes Pharmacist provided patient care service In-person or via telephone provided care Exclusion Criteria Not delivered in pharmacy space No clear outcome Full text not available Pilot work or protocol development According to the readily searchable literature, we found that the majority of clinical and patient satisfaction outcomes are improved when a community pharmacist intervenes. We also found that studies measuring economic outcomes are harder to conduct due to constraints like time of intervention thus, we cannot confirm that economic outcomes are improved when a community pharmacy intervenes. More quality studies need to be conducted with this outcome in mind. Conclusions
