Ex. The Muslims learned the art of papermaking from the Chinese. With that information they innovated it by bounding books (History Alive! The Medieval World and Beyond 113).

The spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group to another.
During the Islamic Golden Age Muslims learned the game of Polo from the Persians. They refined the rules of the game as it gained popularity (116).

Ex. “Al-Khawarizimi is best known as the ‘father of algebra.’ In fact, the word algebra comes from the title of one of his books (109).”

Innovation
An improvement to an existing product or process.
Ex. The Muslims studied medicine of the ancient Greeks, Mesopotamians, and Egyptians. They took what they learned and innovated medicine by doing things like having different wards in hospitals (112).
